The Rest of the Morning - July 13, 2007

The previous misty morning turned into a bright sunny day.

The first rush of roadside bloom is fading, and being replaced by tall sweet clover, wild roses, Job's tears, and in today's journey, wildly healthy poison ivy. This plant likes the damp riversides, and true to its name, climbs over everything in sight, including a covered bridge.

Misty Morning - July 13, 2007

It's not easy to get up early enough to catch the rising mist over the Kennebecasis, or the glassy reflections in the Hammond River near Darlings Island. But it's worth the trouble

These shots were taken with a Kodak Z650, and have not been edited in any way. The photo link below the slide show should take you to my Picasa album which will show EXIF information for anyone interested. Mostly, my purpose is to share the beauty of our province and increase awareness of the diversity of the roadside flora that lives right under our noses.

A Springtime Drive - May 25, 2007

Quispamsis-Westfield-Gagetown-Jemseg-Springfield-Norton-Quispamsis
These photos were taken from roadside stops on a drive up the "River Road" from Westfield to Gagetown in late May. It was a late spring, and the service berry trees were still in bloom, and the river was still at freshet levels. All along the way were bright green fields, budding trees, and river views.

Mid-May and early June are wonderful times to travel to New Brunswick. Along the rivers, the trees are not full-out, so the water views can be seen more easily than later in the summer. The lupins are at their colorful best, a real treat for photographers. The tourist season is not yet in full-swing so traffic is light. Even on major highways, it is often possible to pull over to catch a great shot. But the backroads are the best source of Picture Province pictures.

Welcome to New Brunswick Roadsides

For many years I have been enchanted with the flowers of spring and summer along the highways and back roads of New Brunswick, Canada.

We are "The Picture Province" and often a simple Sunday drive will provide ample opportunities for memorable pictures. Often overlooked, are those pictures that are found in the ditches and highway medians where natural wild plants (sometimes assisted by the 'highway mix' roadbuilders use to secure the banks) put on a marvelous display that changes with the advancing season.

The view beyond the roadside is sometimes framed by these blooms.

It is my hope to illustrate here, some of the scenes that might be missed in the tour guides. For those of us who live here, this is "our own backyard."
